RE: How many have had a blowout while using TPMS
We bought a TPMS last year, before we went to FL. It's on a FW, but as it turns out, it didn't help at all. I watch the tires every few minutes in the mirrors anyway, and I caught TWO tire problems on the trip both were on the way back. first one, seperated belt. ended up with a football size knot in the side wall. I saw it, the TPMS would not. { due to no loss of air} the second one was a flat out blow out. I didn't here it,but i saw the smoke, and pulled over before the TPMS went off!
Now, I'm not bashing TPMS, BUT we all need to be aware of our tire conditions. My tires were above pressure spec by 3 psi. They were goodyear marathons,{I know about them} and thats why we bought a TPMS.
Other than a piece of mind crutch, it hasn't impressed me yet....
we ended up getting four DURO's at 11PM on the side of the road, on highway 24.....
TPMS is a good trhing, but don't expect it to alert you to all tire problems. Most of thr time, on a trailer, it's a blow out, not a slow leaker..........
RE: fuel stops needed
Your right, I'm sure I can. I was just hoping someone could tell me first hand, what there was in that stretch. I called one station, and they didn't have a clue what they were selling.
RE: fuel stops needed
Yes, no stops along the way. I also looked at Pilot, TA, and Loves. Petro too.
So I'm guessing it's got to be a small gas station that might carry it.
fuel stops needed
I am looking for a couple of known "good" fuel stops between montgomery AL, and evergreen AL, Brewton, barrydale, allentown. I see a fuel stop on I10, exit 10, but dont know if they have fuel. Yes, I need ULSD fuel. Diesel.
I am planning a trip in the next couple of weeks and I am running into a fuel problem in this stretch. even if you know of a stop on SR31 heading to Navarre FL.
thanks for your input!
RE: Howard RV in st. louis. gone???
I guess by now, most of you already know that Howard RV supercenter is no more. BUT, apache village bought out howard RV, AND reopened the doors under the name of Midwest RV. They are carrying just about everything that Howard RV was, and the one line that alot of us here needed, coachman, it their primary line. Now, the staff there is only at 40% of what howard RV was running at, and service is closed on saturdays. Many of the people we knew from howards have been called back to work. some have not.
Please give them a chance, the folks at, "from" apache village are good people, they have been around for a long time.
They are working with the folks that got left out in the cold on their sales, and they are working with people who needed warranty work when things fell apart. I'm just happy to see they are up and running again!
CALLING ALL SHRIMP AND CRAB IDEAS!!!
We have a tripo planedd to Navarre FL in a few short weeks, and I am looking for some REALLY simple ideas for cooking these critters. I'm bringing a steamer, and a grill, but other than that, I don't have a clue what else to to make.
So far, I plan on boiling a bunch of shrimp and use them in omlets, and on the side with steak, and I plan on trying my hand at steaming some crab.
Any other Ideas??
I will copy and paste your ideas to take with me.
RE: another lesson learned!
WOW! so many of us in the same boat! LOL! it's the turbulence thats causing my problem. Trust me, it was a heavy rubbermaid container. Yeah, the heavy drinking DID help me cope with the loss!.
another lesson learned!
Just courious, how many of you out there tow a 5'ver, and have somehting in the bed as well??
We went out on the shake and bake trip, "prep the trailer for the year" to a local campground just minutes from ther house. this is the LAST time I ever put anything other than the hitch in the bed again. to this date, we have lost. ONE shoe, a LARGE dog bed, a pillow, a rubber backed rug, a couple of levelers, and now a rubbermaid box of "stuff" Not all at the same time, usually one thing a trip....
that's it! I will never, ever put anything in there again!!
The trip went well, but when I found out about the loss, I went into a tailspin! I ended up polishing off a whole lot of booze, and stubling off to bed because I felt bad about junk going all over the highway.
Just had to vent that.
RE: First trip of the season, another blown Marathon tire!
I've got marathons on our 5'ver, and had one let go last year. We replaced it with another marathon BECAUSE the valve stem was to blame. I pulled all the tires off, and inspected them, and the wear was fine, but the valve stems are a VERY weak link here. I'm not sticking my neck out here for BF, but, I have seen MANY with bad stems. We went with 1 inch metal stems, and a pressure pro TPM for the trailer.
How many of us REALLY use two hands to air up a tire??? How many times have you gone and put the air chuck up to the stem and just pushed it on, only to see the valve stem fold over??? damage is done right there! the stem just tore open at the base.... Now, run it down the highway, and that stem flexes over ever so slightly, and there you have it, and leak.
RE: Reese no drill mounting kit?
ok, I just bought a 08 mega cab about a month and a half ago. I did alot of research on how to mount our 16K reese back into this truck.
If you want to do it yourself, buy the bracket kit. trust me, It's NOT going to move around on the frame rails, unless you have a limp wrist tightening it up. It took about 3 hours out in my driveway.
the universal rails will not work on this truck. I'm happy with the set up. My problem was, we already own a 16K reese hitch, and I didn't want to change to another style, due to MORE money out. I can, if I want to in the future, change to a slider, and reuse my upper plate, for less than 300 bucks.
RE: Diesel Prices
On Bloomberg yersterday, they were saying that the barrel will remain around 100 dollars for the spring and summer. Then for 2009, should fall back to 95 a barrel.
We just bought a new diesel truck and then the fuel prices started climbing!
Here's a link to watch it,

Howard RV in st. louis. gone???
Drove by there tonight, and I got chased off the lot by a security guy!! Maybe 10 trailers on the whole lot! service is empty! anybody know anything??
RE: Navarre FL. input needed.
Thanks for ther reply! Thats the kind of info we were looking for. I had also joined the Navarre Beach forums, and they are the locals giving us info, and inside info about their town. they told me about a really neat resturaunt right at the bridge called juana's, good food, amd a bar, and they also told us about eight more public beaches down the road........
